Having a mutually fulfilling sex life is obviously great in a relationship. But as relationships and marriages mature over a number of years sex for some can lose it’s importance in maintaining a close bond.
There is nothing wrong with these couples, The relationship has just entered a different but still very satisfying phase.
So no, in these cases sexual attraction is not necessary in maintaining a relationship.
Some couples will even sigh with relief.

Lot of interesting information! It pretty much confirms what we already know.

“20% feel that sexual attraction is not necessary to fall in love, however 86% of men and 88% of women feel that sexual attraction is necessary to maintain a relationship.” hmm…. maybe that initial sexual chemistry thing is important after all.

“As they get older, women find a lack of ambition becomes more of a turn off” Doesn’t bode well for the beta male, does it..

“64% of men and women say that communication becomes increasingly attractive as they become older” Yes now that the kids are grown this is actually an excellent time for us to get to know each other… again! Even in the advent of viagra, cialis and the like, communication still one of the best aphrodisiac around!

Fun video!

I think that wrapped into kindness as a characteristic for a long term realtionship is also the quality of having a positive outlook. It’s not something that is often cited as a factor in relationship surveys, but I think it has a lot to do with other people wanting to be around you. I’ve been trying to be more positive lately and I feel that the benefit that I get out of it is wonderful. Positive energy is contagious and I think that people appreciate others who help them stay in a positive frame of mind. Just my take on things. :)

I must have an optimistic partner for long term attraction to occur. Respect and acceptance are given necessities. Nothing will kill it for me sooner than a negative attitude.

Jimmy #1 – Sometimes I am a little sussed about the survey. I am probably a little jaded, most people may not know what they like and want. Sometimes they lack the skill in just reflecting on what makes LTR work. That is where people like Evan comes in.

Annie #2 – I agree. That is how my heart began to soften with a particular before we broke up. Nothing is more attractive than an accepting person. Not a moron or a fool. Rather a person who sees both the good, the bad and the ugly of you. Acceptance and kindness are pretty much intertwined, methinks.

Long Term attraction…. I’d go with acceptance. There is something so wonderfully attractive, about a person who accepts you completely for who you are. I think that can pretty much override most other things.

They percentages don’t mean anything because most of the people surveyed are probably lying and most people don’t actually know what they like and want.
