Founder of online dating consulting service E-Cyrano and author of Why You're Still Single: Things Your Friends Would Tell You If You Promised Not To Get Mad" and "I Can't Believe I'm Buying this Book: A Commonsense Guide to Successful Internet Dating," Evan Marc Katz has established himself as America's leading dating expert.
Working at Spark Networks (owners of AmericanSingles and JDate) in 2002, Evan realized the immense value of an eye-catching profile and a dose of wise dating advice. This inspired him to start E-Cyrano in 2003, six months before his first book came out to critical raves in Time Magazine and Publishers Weekly. Now the bestselling online dating guide, its success has made Evan a media mainstay. Appearing in hundreds of media outlets since 2004, he has been featured in the New York Times, Time, and USA Today, and on The Rachael Ray Show, CNN Showbiz Tonight, Extra, Good Morning America and The Today Show.
Evan’s on-air presence has enabled him to work with many of the top dating companies, including Match.com, Yahoo! Personals, Cupid.com, Date.com, Lavalife.com and Great Expectations. In addition to being a regular contributor to Match.com’s Happen Magazine, he was the
co-creator, editor in chief, and advice columnist for JDate’s JMag. Last year, Evan was named Harlequin Books’ 2006 Romance Report media spokesperson, doing interviews about mastering real-life dating encounters.
Prior to writing dating books, Evan was a Los Angeles-based screenwriter. After working as a writer’s assistant on the last season of “Ellen”, he was selected to be a member of the Warner Brothers’ Writers Workshop, the most prestigious sitcom writing program in the entertainment industry. After getting written credits with VH1’s “Random Play” and Nickelodeon’s “As Told By Ginger”, Evan turned his focus to feature films. His screenplay “Freeing Mr. Jiggs” (co-written with Barron Ebenstein) finished in the Top 3 of 7500 scripts in Miramax’s first Project Greenlight contest on HBO. His independent script, “Pahrump, NV”, finished in the Top 20 of the IFC screenwriter’s lab and has Jaime Pressly attached to star. Evan has also written both a film treatment and a TV pilot based on his experiences as a dating coach.
A passionate and provocative speaker, Evan's speeches have entertained audiences cross-country. Whether keynoting the International Online Dating Conference in San Francisco, addressing a room of 250 singles at the Washington Hilton, or running a series of dating seminars for JDate at Club Med, his boundless energy is contagious to listeners of all ages. Most recently, Evan has been teaching a "Why You’re Still Single" workshop that encompasses all aspects of dating, from first impressions, to date etiquette, to relationship coaching.
Evan lives in Los Angeles and divides his time writing, dating coaching, and consulting on business development and marketing with entrepreneurs and dating companies.
